Introduction to Sailing

 

  • Would you like to know if sailing is for you?  Sign up for a three hour on the water experience that will give you the basics of what it like to harness the wind!
  • Cost: $ 175.00.

 

Basic Keel Boat Sailing – ASA 101

 

  • This course consists of three hours in the classroom, followed by two days on the water.  Here you will apply the knowledge gained on land at the helm of one of our sailboats.
  • Topics covered:  sailing terminology, points of sail, safety on the water, rules of the road, person overboard, federal requirements, boat handling and sail control.
  • Cost of Course:   $ 469.00
  • Fee includes all training materials, certification, and one year membership to the American Sailing Association.  On the water portion of the course will be limit to four.

 

Basic Coastal Cruising – ASA 103


  • This course consists of a two hour on land planning session followed by a two day cruise on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay on board ‘Elusive”, our Beneteau 40.
  • Here you will be introduced to the cruising lifestyle.  After planning a course to sail and provisioning the boat for a two day cruise, we will leave from the harbor in Worton Creek, Md and embark on a two-day voyage.  This will allow you to experience life on board a cruising sailboat.  You will sharpen your docking and sailing skills, pick a good anchorage, set the hook and spend the evening out on the water.
  • You will increase your knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather forecast interpretation, safety and seamanship.
  • Cost of Course:   $ 1049.00
  • Prerequisite: ASA 101 – Basic Keel Boat Sailing
  • Fee includes all training materials and six meals.  To maximize your learning experience the class size is limited.

 

Basic Keel Boat Sailing & Basic Coastal Cruising Combination Course – ASA 101 & 103


  • Here we will combine the two courses and teach you to sail and enjoy the cruising lifestyle in a three day adventure on the Chesapeake Bay.  In preparation for your time on the water you will spend three hours in the classroom prior to the cruise.
  • Cost of Course:   $ 1449.00
  • Fee includes all training materials, certification, and one year membership to the American Sailing Association plus nine meals.  To maximize your learning experience the class size is limited.

 

Bareboat Cruising – ASA 104

  • Upon course completion the student will have the ability to skipper a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keel boat of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds and sea conditions.  Knowledge of provisioning, galley operations, boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, routine maintenance procedures, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation including basic chart plotting and GPS operation, multiple-anchor mooring, docking, health & safety, emergency operations, weather interpretation, dinghy/tender operation and more.
  • Cost of Course:  $1049.00
  • Fee includes all training materials and six meals.  To maximize your learning experience the class size is limited.
  • Prerequisite: ASA 101 – Basic Keel Boat Sailing and ASA 103 – Coastal Cruising

 

Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Cruising – ASA 103 & 104

 

  • This course combines ASA 103 and 104 in a three and one half learning experience out of our Worton Creek, MD location.
  • Cost of Course:   $ 1449.00
  • Fee includes all training materials, certification, plus nine meals.  To maximize your learning experience the class size is limited.
  •  Prerequisite: ASA 101

 

Coastal Navigation – ASA 105

 

  • Learn to use navigation theory to plot a course to safely navigate in coastal waters or inland waters.
  • Cost of Course:  $ 389.00
  • Fee includes text book, training chart, dividers, parallel rules, lunch, and upon successful completion of the course, ASA certification.

 

Docking Course – ASA 118


  • Cost of Course: $ 299.00
  • Private lessons on your boat
  • Learn the five forces that act on your boat and how to manage them during docking maneuvers.
  • Do you know the difference between prop walk and wash?
  • Learn how to use spring lines when exiting and entering your slip in a cross wind.
  • Learn to turn your boat in 360 degrees in its own boat length.
